On Love

My thoughts on love are this:

When we are born, and we are babies, all we want is to love and be loved. Babies and young children don’t have self-esteem issues. When we notice as little ones that we are not receiving the love we came into the world knowing we deserved, we get confused. That inner confusion is also known as cognitive dissonance. Cognitive dissonance is the discomfort we experience when we hold two opposing beliefs. “I am lovable but the environment around me is not treating me with love”. As kids, we are egocentric. The world is centered around ourselves. Our actions, our personalities, etc. For example, when I was a child, celebrating my December 30th birthday on December 31st, I thought the new years eve fireworks for me. Another example is a child blaming themselves for their parents divorce. “If I had just been quiet and followed the rules, mom and dad wouldn’t have fought”.

As children we try to understand why we aren’t getting the love we already know we deserve. So we blame ourselves becasue we are egocentric. I’m too shy, I’m too loud, I’m a troublemaker, I’m too fat, I’m too ugly, I’m too needy, I’m too clingy, I’m too picky…there must be something wrong with me if the world around me is not reinforcing my beliefs. Well I’m here to tell you, there was never ANYTHING wrong with you, dear one. It was the broken world around you that was wrong. You were always right. You were always worthy of the deepest, purest, most unconditional, softest, safest, kindest, truest, most comfy, milky pink. love.

Now that we’re older, t’s time to remember that truth, dear one. The only thing wrong with you is that you think there’s something wrong with you. And even that, well most of us think that! So really, you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be. So stop believing the lies you told yourself to make sense of the confusion and chaos around you when you were young. Be nice to yourself, be kind, be true. You are a work of art, and I can’t wait to see what lovely colorful painting you paint with your life.

I want to also talk a little bit about God. Some people look for this love I speak of in God, But what if I told you, that you have your own source of untapped unconditional love, waiting inside you, for you to access it. Maybe at the center of your heart or in the pit of your stomach. I wanna give God her credit though. I refer to my God as Universe. And really, one of the most important decisions you can make is whether the Universe is friendly place or a hostile place. I’ve decided it is a friendly place, always working in my favor even when it doesn’t feel like it. So yes, accept the Universes love but don’t forget to accpet your own too.

I wonder. Maybe you were never looking for God, Maybe you were just looking for you. Maybe you’re not waiting for God to find you, maybe you’re waiting for yourself to find you. You are enough, You are lovable, You are love, You are holy. (Link to song. This song is probably about God or Jesus, but you know what? Whenever I listen to it, I think she’s singing about me. Reminding me, that just like you, I am holy.)

Lots of Love,
